FORGOTTEN LANDS’ Open Call offers a unique opportunity for our community to contribute to our annual print publication. We are committed to uncovering and showcasing the pivotal themes and trends shaping contemporary Caribbean art. For Volume 6, we invite submissions that delve into what Cuban historical novelist, critical essayist, and short story writer Antonio Benítez-Rojo once termed the ‘supersyncretic’ culture of the Caribbean - a rich tapestry of ever-evolving interwoven traditions and expressions.
Although syncretism emerges from the violent colonial histories and uprootedness of the Caribbean, each island-nation conjures different ways of expressing, coping, managing, and healing the fractures of conquest. Nonetheless, there still is a Pan-Caribbean identity that is perpetually evolving. This leads us to ask what defines the ‘Neo-Carib’? What does our cultural identity look like today and where is it going?
We welcome any interpretation from a broad spectrum of contributors - artists, historians, or critics - to explore this critique through their unique lens. Our publication is specifically interested in publishing work from those currently residing in the Caribbean or part of the region’s diaspora.

FAQ:
Can I submit more than one project? Yes! However we will only choose 1 project per artist. We want to see your strongest body of work.
Can I submit a collaborative project? Yes, you can submit a project that has been created by yourself and other artists. Please submit under the name that you would like to appear in print if you are selected.
Does the work have to be new and exclusive to Forgotten Lands? Not at all! Work submitted is allowed to have been exhibited elsewhere (non-exclusive to Forgotten Lands), ideally all work was completed within the last 2-3 years.
