Ania Freer 🇦🇺 🇯🇲, Yamil Arbaje 🇩🇴, & Deja Belardo 🇻🇮 🇵🇷 delivered captivating presentations on their work, practices, and the impact of the texts they each selected from the MET Library for discussion.

Final Days: I AM CaribBEING X FORGOTTEN LANDS at Governor's Island
Weekends through Sunday, Aug 18
We’re closing out our month-long exhibition with the I AM CaribBEING mobile container at Governor’s Island. How I remembered it… features photographs from Volume 04 artist Theodore Samuels 🇯🇲 and Volume 06 artist Frédéric Georges 🇭🇹. The I AM CaribBEING House is located on the lawn outside Colonels Row, Building 409, 📍Governor’s Island.
*Proceeds will go to Hurricane Beryl Relief.

Tropical Frequencies at LMCC on Governor’s Island

Tropical Frequencies curated by Kiara Cristina Ventura for the Lower Manhattan Cultural Center (LMCC) Curatorial Fellow Exhibition features paintings, sculptures, and installations by Caribbean artists, Cheyenne Julien, Emily Manwaring🇹🇹 🇭🇹, Bony Ramirez 🇩🇴 (V06 artist), Mosie Romney 🇯🇲, Quiara Torres 🇩🇴, and Tiempo De Zafra 🇩🇴 who channel and engage with alternate realms in their practices. These realms are heavily influenced by Caribbean culture, the tropics, passed-down stories, and the artists’ African and Indigenous roots.
AnkhLave Arts Alliance House on Governor’s Island
Ankhlave Arts Alliance is a NYC-based nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to advancing BIPOC artists in the contemporary art realm. They provide platforms for artistic expression and exchange through their annual programming, including the AnkhLave Garden Project Fellowship, Curator in Residence, and Public Artist in Residence. The AnkhLave Artist Residency features several artists with ties to the Caribbean and is located on Colonels Row just steps from the I AM CaribBeing mobile container.
A Billion, Brilliant Points of Unity at Fridman Gallery

As information travels faster and faster, polyculturalism hints at what the future holds—we are not moving towards a single, homogenous culture, but towards a billion, brilliant points of unity.
The group exhibition A Billion, Brilliant Points of Unity, curated by Maty Sall, features works by Hilary Balu, Kokou Ferdinand Makouvia, Laurena Finéus 🇭🇹 🇨🇦, Ambrose Rhapsody Murray, Terrence Musekiwa, Adjani Okpu-Egbe, Rakajoo, Sahana Ramakrishnan, Yelaine Rodriguez 🇩🇴 (V05 artist), David Smalling 🇯🇲, Pascale Marthine Tayou, Malaika Temba, Maya Ines Touam, and Saya Woolfalk.
